Right-click the created item and then select 'Duplicate', to add a total of two SDUs (Storage Deck Upgrades; to unlock the remaining locked two weapon equip slots). Then, in the game, go to the Bank and retrieve the Weapon Equip Slot SDUs. Retrieving an SDU will unlock a weapon equip slot. The SDUs won't appear in your inventory. Equipped Weapon Slot #4 — This will remain locked until you complete the Bright Lights, Flying City story mission (Chapter 10). When this is unlocked, hit the 4 key to automatically equip the weapon in this slot. (Back to screenshot) Shield Slot — You start seeing shields when you get to level 3. Shields soak up damage until they are.
In Borderlands 3 there are numerous weapon slots to unlock throughout the course of the game. Unlocking all four slots allows you to carry and switch between different types of weapons more quickly instead of having to head into the character menu and switch them out.
Unlock the fourth weapon slot after Beneath the Meridian
To unlock the fourth weapon slot in Borderlands 3 you will need to progress through the story. Once you’ve completed Beneath the Meridian you’ll have the fourth weapon slot. You should complete this around level 20. Completing this much of the game will take some time, but there are numerous things you can do to level up quickly like tackling side missions, killing all enemies in the open world, and doing main story missions.
You can constantly track your progress via the level bar at the bottom of the screen. It will always show you how far you have to go to the next level and when you have skill points available to use. Once you’ve got the fourth weapon slot unlocked, you will be able to carry four different types of weapons in each slot.

Once you’ve got all four weapon slots unlocked you can carry a nice variety of different weapons that will work in multiple situations. You can switch through them on the fly by pressing the Y Button (Xbox) or Triangle Button (PlayStation).
